Team Racing Paradigm

Understanding The Team Racing Paradigm

Team Racing represents a complete paradigm shift from conventional sailboat racing.  The name itself inherently tells the difference.  Team Racing, in developing the team spirit, promotes cooperation among teammates.  Team Racing promotes and fosters working together toward a common goal.  Unlike fleet racing where boats are pitted against all others on the race course, Team Racing relies on teammates working together.  The team aspect encourages team mates to assist each other, pool knowledge, and practice.

Individual sports, like fleet racing,  rely on the fact that it is you, and only you, against your opponents.  In Team Racing however, it is the combined quest for a common goal that makes the satisfaction within the sport so much more rewarding for all team members.  The team aspect involves both reliance and cooperation so that the team may work toward a common goal.  Because the combinations change so often in the team race, it is usually very exiting from start to finish.  In Team Racing, you achieve your strategy by assisting teammates.  This seems to be the opposite end of the spectrum than the individual style of fleet racing.

Team Racing, because it relies on a concerted effort by all members working toward a common goal, develops a team spirit which is rarely found in fleet racing.
