Sailing Practice- Reaching Drills

The two concepts that must be stressed in reaching drills are: Seizing the initiative and mark trap passbacks.   Knowing that two pairs may have equal opportunity to execute the reach leg passback, the team who initiates first will have the advantage to achieve the passback first and put themselves into a more solid combination [ figure 16 & 17].   There can be no balancing of pairs because of the nature of passing a mark.  Moving ahead of an opponent or bringing up a team mate is the goal.
