Clean Regattas

Sailors for the Sea - Clean Regattas Program

US SAILING has partnered with Sailors for the Sea, the only non-profit organization working solely with boaters to protect and restore ocean, lake, and coastal water health. Our shared goal is to certify all US SAILING JO events as Clean Regattas.  Here are some of the requirements:

     • Run a Trash Free Regatta - keep your shores and waters clear of debris.
     • Prohibit overboard discharge of trash and littering at shore facilities (e.g., rigging tape, cigarette butts, beer cans) Rainy Day Kits
     • Encourage recycling from boats and shore facilities.
     • Require that motorized vessels shall carry and use at least one bilge sponge and one fueling spill pad.

Rozalia ProjectRozalia Project
The mission of the Rozalia Project is to find and remove marine debris through action, technology, outreach and research.

American Promise is the Rozalia Project’s 60-foot trash-hunting mothership. Made famous by Dodge Morgan's solo round the world voyage, the ship for the last twenty years has served as an offshore sail training vessel for the United States Naval Academy. American Promise will tour New England coastal waters, visiting yacht clubs, removing trash from the ocean and collecting data to discover geographic distribution of plastic.

What are the top 10 items found on the world's beaches?
